Fresh Seafood and Wood-Fired Meats From One of Mexico City’s Best

Average Reviews

Description

Another day, another hugely celebrated chef bringing us their take on Mexican food on yet another gorgeous outdoor patio.

That’s not a complaint.

Offer a most genuine “bienvenidos” to Tintorera, a crucial new Mexican restaurant with a seafood-bent from chef Maycoll Calderon of Mexico City’s celebrated Huset, soft-opening tomorrow in Silver Lake. Check it out.

The whole place is patio, making it prime for enchanting date nights. You two will sit below a towering mural of a mermaid goddess surrounded by blue sharks (tintoreras), your table illuminated by glowing lamps and strings of light. The better to see your seafood and wood-fired meats from this veteran of Arzak, Jean-Georges and Ferran Adria’s kitchens.

The bar knows its wines and has less familiar agave distillates (bacanora, raicilla) to explore. But feel free to start on the Aguacate with tequila, pineapple, horchata, lime and avocado. You know, to pave the way to your tuna tartare with jalapeño emulsion and arroz con pollo from the wood oven.

Eat. Drink. Enjoy each other’s company. And, sure, comment on that couple on their phones who hasn’t spoken a word to each other. Or you could always just head straight to their sexy speakeasy through the discreet side door for a menu of cocktails like la Pistola with rye, raicilla, agave syrup and chocolate-and-Angostura bitters.

Depending on where your hair looks better.
