It’s Still a Japanese Brewery, but Now It’s Also This
Quick, name all the Japanese beers you can.
If your list started with “S” and ended with “apporo,” maybe you should take a walk with us…
To Hitachino, a new beer and Wagyu spot (yes, from that Japanese brewery of the same name) that’s now soft-open for password-only preview reservations between Nob Hill and the Tenderloin. Check it out.
Until things are fully up and running, you’ll secure your spot by entering your name and email on their site. Instructions to follow from there and all that. Come game day, you’ll enter through the imported Japanese door to find an unsurprisingly minimalist sliver with a bar and high-top tables made from old sake presses.
Take some time to notice the multiple beers and the one glorious sake on tap. Drink one. Drink another one. Eventually, you’ll advance past jars of pickled ingredients and pictures of the brewery with your date to your seats at one of the communal tables.
From there: a salvo of prix fixe dishes ranging anywhere from oxtail with daikon and beer mustard to yakiniku with apple, sesame and soy. And once they’re fully open, come back for a beer and bar snacks like spicy squid with chorizo sausage.
