Description

You should go for a walk in the park tomorrow.

We don’t know. Just seems like a good idea.

Especially since it’ll be a park that leads you to leg-of-lamb sandwiches, wine and trailers full of ice cream.

Especially since it’ll be Grand Fare Market—an indoor/outdoor/kinda-park-like market and café from a Commis vet and a Town Hall owner. It opens tomorrow.

Now, imagine someone took the best parts of Paris from Paris and plopped them down in Oakland. Then stop using your imagination and feast your eyes upon this slideshow.

You and your date will wander hand in hand through iron gates into a secretive garden courtyard. A 1940s-era aluminum trailer will beckon. Inside: some coffee, some ice cream, some rich mahogany. You know, trailer stuff.

Further along, you’ll encounter 20-foot trees, decomposed-granite gravel paths and the sort of marble café tables Hemingway would’ve patronized had Hemingway lived here and not pretty much everywhere else. Share a bottle of wine before heading inside…

Which is where you’ll discover a world of prepped foods, pastries and leg-of-lamb sandwiches. A world of wine pairings and charcuterie and whole-roasted peri-peri chickens. A world where flower shops and seven-seat raw-oyster bars live harmoniously side by side.

We’ll stop describing worlds now.
