Description

You’ve paid your dues heading out to the Hamptons.

So for once, just once, it’d be nice if the Hamptons came to you.

Welcome to Tremont, an airy, walk-in Bank Street dinner spot that’s got the feel of a perfect little Southampton date spot, opening Thursday.

Okay, so this is going to require a bit of make-believe. But not much. Because between the crisp white walls, beach-house trimmings and properly pan-roasted arctic char, this is about the closest you’ll get to Montauk in Manhattan. At least until you close escrow on your new Park Avenue lighthouse.

So you’ll come here anytime you’ve got a weeknight affair that requires the seductively seared assistance of diver scallops. Or feel like planning a two-hour, two-top vacation around a carafe of wine and a plate of poached lobster.

Now, whether by happy coincidence or architectural marvel, nearly all of the 45 seats in this rich dark wood, second-home-looking restaurant are sufficiently nooked in one way or another. Which, when sparsely lit by an antique warehouse light fixture, is exactly the type of milieu you want when dining on Crispy Sweetbreads and thinly sliced crudo du jour.

You’ve always been a very visual eater.
