Description

As the biblical story goes, everything was going great in the Garden of Eden until Eve took a bite out of an apple from the tree of knowledge and suddenly people couldn’t walk around naked anymore.

Still, you have to wonder whether things would’ve turned out differently if she’d taken a bite out of, say, an umami donut.

It’s a worthwhile thought experiment, and one you’re free to indulge at Eden, a Mediterranean-tinged oasis of fine dining with its own greenhouse, opening Friday near the United Center. And here it is now.

You’ll make the pilgrimage here before a Bulls game, after a Bulls game or when a Bulls game isn’t even in the picture. A spacious dining room dressed in earth tones will greet you, as will steel-topped tables. Take a seat at one of them. Good things will happen to you there.

Like those umami donuts to start, which are really meat-filled beignets with a cinnamony tomato sauce. Like braised-duck lasagna or Portuguese-spiced chicken. Like a single malt scotch libation with burnt rosemary and cold-pressed apple cider.

And should you be feeling particularly adventurous, forgo a table for a spot at the back bar, where one of the chefs might ask you to taste a new menu item.

Pro tip: you should say yes.
