Turn to the nearest desirable person to you, and say the following words in a modest but confident tone, as though the idea just came to you:

“Hey, come with me to San Carlo Osteria Piemonte tonight.”

That’s where you and that person will go to SoHo and eat Piedmontese Italian and converse in a way that makes you the envy of all else in the restaurant, starting… now.

Two quick things: Piedmontese food is a little tough to come by in this fine city, but what you need to look out for is a lot of meat antipasti, cream sauces and a sprinkling of Austrian and French influence. Oh, and wine. They’re famous for wine. Second: expect to find more than a few Italian expats here, and for that to make you feel good about your decision to come.
