Hey, Beastie Boys fans.Â
Have we got an easily accessible, above-average online destination for you.
It’s called The House that Yauch Built, and it’s a virtual-reality, interactive tour honoring the late Beastie Boys member, Adam Yauch (aka MCA).Â
The impressive AF site is a collaboration between Oscilloscope Laboratories, Red Bull Music Academy and Media Monks, and will allow you to march your virtual self through the offices, editing rooms and bathrooms of Yauch’s home studio. It offers 360-degree views, as you click your way through annotated trivia, quotes from relevant humans, video footage and rare audio recordings. Some gems you may find along the way:
—An intimate look at some of his recording equipment, like the mixing board he used to record Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger,” and a bass he referred to as the “Devil.”Â
—The story behind the 2005 video, Awesome, I Fuckin’ Shot That, for which they distributed some 50-odd cameras to the audience at MSG and let them record the show from their own perspective.
—A closer look at a triptych of paintings by Adam’s father Noel Yauch, plus some video footage getting into who he was as an artist.Â
—A flower pot, gifted to the studio from Cat Power.
