Description

The Chicago Athletic Association, originally a 19th-Century private members club, has reopened as a strikingly modern 21st-Century hotel. Renovated and revitalized with a playful appreciation of the architectural past that walks the line between stuffy preservation and radical reinvention, the Venetian Gothic palace located on Chicago’s landmark Michigan Avenue now houses 241 guest rooms and an award-winning gastro scene.

Rooms nod to the property’s athletic history with pommel-horse benches, boxing-style bathrobes, and desk legs wrapped in tennis-racquet tape, but all include the newest 42″ flatscreen TVs, rain showerheads, and bedside USB outlets.

The hotel’s six restaurants range from Shake Shack’s famous burgers and fries, to the off-lobby Cherry Circle Room known for throwback cocktails, to the crown jewel Cindy’s rooftop restaurant whose vaulted glass atrium provides panoramic views of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan. And while the boxing ring and fencing pistes have been retired, personal training and private group sessions are still bookable in the hotel’s state-of-the-art 24-hour gym.
