Description

Four generations ago, the Cipriani family rose to fame with Harry’s Bar in Venice, where everyone from Truman Capote to Orson Welles would visit for a bellini (or ten.) Over the years they’ve expanded their empire to include hotspots in New York, Hong Kong, Monte Carlo and more. In 2011, Ignazio and Maggio Cipriani, the youngest generation, expanded their family’s claim with Mr. C, steps from Rodeo Drive. Appropriately glamorous, the hotel occupies highland in Beverly Hills. To step into the lobby is to enter a more elegant world: dark wood panelling, white marble floors, discreet European service delivered by suave gentlemen in white tuxedo jackets. The 138 rooms are likewise luxuriously appointed, each with a private balcony and stunning views of downtown LA. The private bungalows put the Chateau’s to shame and the 4,500 square foot pool, ringed by cabanas, is one of L.A.’s hottest pool scenes.

But of course it’s the restaurant and bar which is unparalleled. One half expects Sofia Loren, in the full bloom of her youth, to emerge, and ask for a plate of carpaccio. Since that probably won’t happen, you’ll have to content yourself with a steady stream of fashionable Angelenos and vaguely mysterious European visitors.
