The country music institution you didn’t know New York needed is now open in Times Square.
And since the Grand Ole Opry is behind it, it’s probably the best sort of country music institution we could’ve hoped for.Â
What with its excess of historic Opry relics, cornmeal-covered catfish and live acts booked all through December…Â
It’s called Opry City Stage, and if you like country music, this place is a godsend—obviously. If you don’t like country music, you’ve probably left this article by now, which also makes sense. For the rest of y’all, let’s break down what they’re all about, below.
It’s the first “home-away-from-home” for the iconic Nashville venue. And it’s similarly massive and comprehensive—a four-floor, 28,000 square-foot complex with a bar, performance space, art and artifacts and restaurant serving up Southern comfort food.
Scattered throughout the space, you’ll find nine decades worth of Grand Ole Opry relics. Never-before-seen photographs, Nashville artisan-made banners depicting lyrics and scenes from famous country songs, outfits worn by Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline, the like.
They’ve got over 40 whiskies to choose from. But also, sweet tea vodka cocktails and some affordable wines. You’ve got to love a menu with a beer-and-shot combo section.
And really, the menu is as Southern comfort as it gets. Fried green tomatoes with remoulade mayo, hot chicken and waffles, smoked pulled pork, rib-eyes with smothered green beans…
They’ll have up to two shows a night, starting this very night. Upcoming acts include CC & The Boys, Nikki Briar and Demolition String Band, and they’ll also be live streaming shows from their Tennessee counterpart.
