Outer Sunset Gets a Long Overdue Cocktail Bar

Description

You know the feeling.

You’ve been at Ocean Beach surfing or hiking or definitely not sunbathing. The fog starts to roll in. And with it, the chill realization: where the hell are you supposed to go for a good drink around here?

Starting today, you no longer have to worry about that thanks to White Cap.

An idea spawned by a native of the neighborhood and the co-owner of the Treasury—who met while surfing—White Cap is your new safe haven from the fog, eerie chill and general lack of high-end cocktails at the end of the Taraval line. It’s open now and here’s the slideshow.

You and your friends will end a day of surfing (or, you know, walking around in pants and a jacket) and trudge up the beach to drop off your stuff and come inside. This most definitely isn’t some slouchy beach bar, but there are nods to the environment with reclaimed wood (weird) and blue leather furniture in keeping with the ocean theme.

The cocktails are named after the tools that helped build the place. Maybe you’ll have a Maple Hammer with rye, maple and walnut reduction. Maybe a Monkey Wrench with Añejo Classico rum, seaweed, coconut and lime, which they pour right from their slushee machine. This is a beach bar, after all.

And if you’re feeling peckish, they’ve got two snacks for you: a seasonal fruit plate and high end chips with a homemade yogurt dip.

Great drinks. This places has great drinks.
