Description

Quick, finish this sentence:

Where there’s smoke, there’s _____.

If you said anything other than “whiskey,” then stop. Do not pass go. And immediately make your way to Copper 29, a welcoming new bar where you can safely tuck yourself away from the masses with a smoking glass of bourbon, soft-open now in Coral Gables.

Take a look around. The obvious play in a place like this: after work. The long stretch of wooden bar with copper accents, old-timey lamps and chandeliers invites a proper hunkering down with a glass of something brown. But if that’s all you’re thinking, you’d be underestimating it. A lot.

Because later in the night, a DJ will emerge from behind the bar. Which won’t displease the group you’ve gathered around the vintage tufted couches and wingback chairs. Also in the not displeasing category: a round of pork confit sliders from a former Cantina La Veinte chef.

And while you could do worse than a classic Old Fashioned, the guy behind the bar here has chops. You might recognize him from La Mar. And he’s got some crazy notions of how you should be taking your drink. Like spiking your mule with kombucha. And delivering your bourbon in a smoky dome.

All the cool bourbons are doing it now.
