The Standard East Village New York

The Standard East Village New York

Average Reviews

Description

Shortly after it opened, The Standard took over the struggling Cooper Square Hotel. It was a shrewd move. The sleek glass and steel construction by architect Carlos Zapata had raised a howl among East Village preservationists but by the time The Standard took over in 2011, they had grown accustomed to it. Some even liked it. With wraparound glass walls, the 105 retro rooms, full of custom mid-century-seeming furniture, huge flatscreen TVs, and tiled bathrooms, feel like a part of the East Village. And at between 250 sq. ft. and 625 sq. feet in the corner suites, the rooms are East Village size too. Andre Balazs aesthetic is fine tuned here, apparent in everything from the bookshelves, stocked with vintage books, to Narcissa Restaurant with organic produce from Balazs’ Hudson Valley farm.
