And that seems as good a place as any to launch into a conversation about the Lately, a chilled-out bi-level cocktail spot created by people from Diamond Horseshoe, the Garret and American Cut, among others. It’s opening tonight in that area that’s technically Chelsea but you’d still consider Meatpacking.
Consider this a respite from the Taos and PH-Ds of the area (not that there’s not a time and place for those). But alcohol will still be consumed and attractive folk will still roam the space. It’s just somewhere to sit and relax in a lodge-like atmosphere with a scotch cocktail in your hand and a fireplace in your sight line.
We did say this place is bi-level, and it is. Only, the top floor isn’t open yet, so we’ll wait and see what happens there.
But about the downstairs, and your time there. One drink to consider whilst relaxing is called the Glad Fact, which we like to think is the first Dirty Projectors reference in mixology rather than an homage to some archaic idiom. It’s that scotch cocktail, mixed with a vintage-formula cognac, Spanish vermouth, amaro, green Chartreuse and spices. So… not one they’d put on tap. And you’ll of course need things to eat. May we suggest the cheddar bratwurst on a pretzel roll, or the quinoa hush puppies?
Don’t answer that. We’re suggesting them.
