This is the latest establishment from the team who brought you Forgery. This time, though, they’re digging into history in addition to mixing up uniformly excellent cocktails for your drinking-those pleasure.
You see, it’s named for the infamous Lola Montez, a dancer and notorious bad girl back in the 1800s. In fact, she had a reputation for being a “wild hawk.” Ah, it’s all coming together now.
And it’s definitely the kind of place Ms. Montez would’ve enjoyed. Black wallpaper patterned with flowers. Corner couches and Eames-like chairs hugging the wall in the corner. You’ll probably be there most evenings when you’re not perched on one of the zebra-patterned bar stools, sipping cognac-and-rye cocktails or tasting one of 10 vermouths.
You’ll realize that many hours have passed. You’ll order some pintxos and crudo to share, courtesy of a former chef from Goose & Gander up in St. Helena. You’ll note how this is both an excellent spot for both a pre-dinner drink and a post-dinner nightcap.
And pretty much most of the other times.
