This is a story about a girl named Lola.
Who was a showgirl.
Who inspired a bar.
The one they’re calling Wildhawk. It’s opening any night now in the Mission, and here are some pictures of
This is the latest establishment from the team who brought you Forgery. This time, though, they’re digging
into history in addition to mixing up uniformly excellent cocktails for your drinking-those pleasure.
You see, it’s named for the infamous Lola Montez, a dancer and notorious bad girl back in the 1800s. In
fact, she had a reputation for being a “wild hawk.” Ah, it’s all coming together now.
And it’s definitely the kind of place Ms. Montez would’ve enjoyed. Black wallpaper patterned with
flowers. Corner couches and Eames-like chairs hugging the wall in the corner. You’ll probably be there
most evenings when you’re not perched on one of the zebra-patterned bar stools, sipping cognac-and-rye
cocktails or tasting one of 10 vermouths.
You’ll realize that many hours have passed. You’ll order some pintxos and crudo to share, courtesy of a
former chef from Goose & Gander up in St. Helena. You’ll note how this is both an excellent spot for both
a pre-dinner drink and a post-dinner nightcap.
And pretty much most of the other times.
