You took a step outside today, and from there your morning was a modern version of the opening credits to The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

And that was before you even knew about the Qüero pop-up at Refinery Hotel. See, there, thanks to a chance encounter with a couple of young Spanish would-be shoemakers, they’ve got custom handmade shoes from Spain. They’ll have them through June.

This is mostly an online operation, but as we all know, you really need to touch and hold these direct-to-customer wares in real life before you can get over your skepticism. Hence the pop-up.

You come in and check out everything they’ve got on offer—pebbled leather Chelsea boots, blue suede loafers, etc., and you get an idea of what’s possible. They’ve got a bunch of shoes, boots and some bags right there for you to take out that day, but the bread and butter here is custom.

You choose your model, and then imagine what you want in each separate part of your new favorite pair. Want a cap-toe oxford with a chestnut leather toe, khaki suede vamp and burgundy suede quarter? You got it. Weird, but you got it. You’ll also need to choose toe patterns, sole types, welt types, laces—all that. They enter all that into a tablet, and in four to six weeks, your pedal dream becomes reality.

You’re gonna make it after all.
