Tequila, Mussels and a Breezy Patio in South Miami

By now, the tin foiled graveyard of leftovers in your refrigerator is dwindling.

Which can only mean one thing…

Time to get back to Florida’s sea-plucked staples. Perhaps somewhere new.

Perhaps somewhere like Shelley’s, a new South Miami seafood spot brimming with tequila and delicious things that hail from the ocean. It’s open now. Bring a date. Check out the slideshow.   

Upon entering, the two of you will immediately notice the nod to Old Florida. A sailfish. Vintage artwork of herons. Lobster figures on the wall. Retro maps. It all works well with the white subway tiles, the paneled ceiling and the funky buoy-like lamps.

Carry on to the bar, grab a pair of barstools and begin the serious business of ordering a round of El Demonios with tequila, habanero and blackberry. Or a glass of frosé if you must. Right. Tequila it is.

The Florida-theme continues outdoors at the café seating beneath an overhang. There, in the balmy night, you’ll spy things like cod fritters and speck-wrapped cobia on the menu that was created by a chef who worked alongside Jeff McInnis.

And to cap the night off, perhaps a little red-wine-and-black-pepper sorbet. 

Red wine without the sorbet also works.
