Description

You may have noticed.

Everyone’s getting high in L.A. these days.

Yep, this whole mania for partying outdoors, high on rooftops, shows no signs of abating.

Look up for evidence at Élephante Beach House, a sky-high restaurant and lounge opening Monday in Santa Monica from Eveleigh/Little Ruby/Goldie’s owner, Nick Mathers.

If you live, work or play by the sea, you’ll no longer need to cross the looming shadow of the 405 to find a stylish, contemporary rooftop party to join. Or to find a crowd of stylish people fresh from their Ubers jockeying to try to join this one.

It’s a real beauty at three floors up, sunny with native plants and natural stone, cottage-y custom furniture and acquisitions from North Africa and Southern Italy, beachy bars in many directions, plus views of the Pacific Ocean that are basically without parallel off the Pier.

Come with a date or a crowd you want to make a good impression on. Start in the afternoon while the sun’s hanging around. Grab some Eames-ish looking wood chairs by the glass partition separating you from the sea and proceed to order something cold and drinkable.

You’ll like this elevated, al fresco situation very much and decide to stay for dinner. This will involve a table bearing grilled octopus, cacio e pepe pizza, whole lobster and an impish ocean breeze curling its invisible embrace around you two, drawing you ever closer.

So far, good impression.
