It’s Cuban and It’s Asian, So That’s Interesting

Description

In distant lands, they call it “Cuban food.”

Here, we call it “food.”

Suffice it to say… our bar is set high.

But here’s a place that’s, yes, making delicious Cuban things, but also throwing in a little Asian flair just to keep things interesting. It’s called Son Cubano, it’s here by way of New York and New Jersey, and it’s now open in Coral Gables.

Take a look around. There’s a 1950s Havana thing happening that starts with the historic building’s terrace. There’s also a winding staircase leading up to a cigar lounge with live music. A Luces de la Habana with Havana Club añejo rum, pineapple juice and coconut water will make you forget all about the fusion thing.

That is, of course, until you try the Cuban sandwich egg roll with slow-roasted pork, black pork belly, swiss, crispy burdock and miso sauce. Or better yet, bring a date, skip tradition altogether and have something from the wok menu. You heard us. Wok menu.

Don’t worry, though, they still have yuca fries and black beans.
