For now we share a world with Mazzi Cucina, a new sliver of eccentricity serving some of the most authentic Italian we’ve seen around these parts in a while, now open in North Miami Beach.
Before you launch into one of those “Oh, another Italian restaurant” missives… stop. Stop right there and take a look at this place. The chef imported the contents of his grandparent’s house in Italy to this very establishment. His grandfather’s 1940s boxing gloves: check. A 1932 Zenith radio: check. Family photos, fishing poles and a vintage bicycle: check, check, check.
His name is Stefano Mazzi, and he’s from Genoa. You may remember him as the executive chef at Cavalli, but he’s channeling a more familial vibe for you and yours here.
The octopus is delivered tableside from the sizzling pan to your plate. When you order the risotto, you’re left to your own devices with an entire truffle and a grating board. The wine consists of whites, reds and proseccos, primarily of the Italian persuasion, and just sort of gets poured into your glass.
