A Sonoran Beer Garden Rises in Frogtown

Description

When you hit the pearly gates, hopefully somebody welcomes you into a lovely garden, pours you a margarita from a tap, then hands you some mesquite-grilled asada tacos. Until then, you have Salazar, an all-day, outdoor restaurant and bar doing those very things while you’re alive and well. It opens Thursday in Frogtown, this is the slideshow, and this is the menu. It’s like an oasis in the Sonoran desert. A cacti-rich, Northern Mexican beer garden with pretty much everything you love about living in LA. Margaritas. Hanging out outside. Tacos. Playing ping-pong with attractive Eastsiders. Definitely meet some friends here. Definitely before or after a Dodgers game, since you’re Chavez Ravine–adjacent. Grab a wooden table and order some draft margaritas. Or better, get everyone Joven y Alocadas with young coconut water, rum, roasted-pepita orgeat and tamarind syrup. Next comes mesquite-grilled asada, ribeye and pork chops from Mexicali’s chef. Slip those between handmade tortillas and proceed with enjoying life while soaking in the sun or stars or smog or whatever happens to be above you. Just delay budging until you cap things off with one of their sweet drinks like a Xocolat Oaxaqueno (house-blended rum, mezcal and mole hot chocolate) or a little Mexican eggnog. It’s seasonal if you say it is.
