Bartender Devon Espinosa has a new home in Encino. It’s Woodley Proper, a comfortable place where he makes you bourbon-and-Becherovka cocktails while Phillip Frankland Lee prepares foie-gras-mousse-stuffed churro bites. And, yes, there’s a liquid ode to Encino Man on the menu. As you suspected there would be.
MR. NICE GUY
First, Tyler Wells coinvented Handsome Coffee Roasters. Now, he’s opening Nice, a Downtown Financial District coffee bar with a patio, sandwiches, housemade donuts and 49th Parallel coffee. Quite wise to diversify into donuts.
BEY MATTER
Beyoncé apparently had something better to do than entertain you at Coachella. Fine. You’ll just drop in on JW Marriott’s tribute party. The pool will have a spiked lemonade stand, the DJ will be dropping her tunes, and you’ll take everything in from a street taco pop-up. Despite its sorta tenuous Beyoncé connection.
THE HUNGER GAME
Dodger games. You’re going for Kershaw’s curve and Gonzalez’s swing. But if one of the stadium’s new beer-sauced burgers topped with Dodger dogs happened to fall into your hand, you’d accept it. And if you also happened to find yourself at the new loaded tater tot stand… well, that should probably just happen.
