Description

The Beer Can House: Guided Tour
The Beer Can House project was started in 1968 by retired upholsterer John Milkovisch, who began inlaying thousands of marbles, rocks, and pieces of metal into concrete and wood, which he used to create unique landscaping features like patios and flower boxes. He initially began by covering the entire front and back yard (allegedly because he was fed up with mowing the lawn), before eventually turning to the house itself and adding aluminum siding – from beer cans, obviously. The house continued disappearing under flattened beer cans over the following 18 years, with Ripley’s Believe It or Not! estimating that over 50,000 cans adorn this modern-day monument to recycling.
