Description

Yesterday was the first official day of summer.

And today marks the first official evening of you meeting friends for steak sandwiches and mezcal mules in Santa Monica.

Going off the Gregorian calendar, of course.

And you’re going to Gramercy, a nice, straightforward neighborhood place for a drink and a bite, now open on the corner of Wilshire and 25th Street in Santa Monica from the owners of the Belmont, Bruhaus and the West End. Check it out.

First, a necessary word of notice: they name the drinks after Manhattan neighborhoods here, as if to remind us that our new overlords are ever near. They also use the word “margs” on the menu. Just once. But perhaps the heartfelt tribute mural of Anthony Bourdain on the exterior wall erases all sins.

In any case, nothing should stop you from pouring one out or taking a zillion photos, then stepping inside this attractive corner tavern of open windows, a green glass tile bar and big screen TVs on warm summer nights that necessitate drinks with friends. Or cold ones.

You’ll take over one of the communal tables in the room’s middle or slide into a booth. The table will turn into a blur of loaded tater tots, lobster rolls and burgers chasing everyone’s Old Fashioneds, mezcal mules and imperial IPAs from the tap.

Although inevitably, that one person that other person brought will get the frosé with the mac-and-cheese carbonara.

Later, there will be questions.
