Magic Mirrors, Blood Orange Negronis and Dancing

Description

Exotic animals.

Phantom limbs.

Dinosaurs on distant planets.

Yes, you’re seeing these things. And you haven’t even had a drink yet…

Off you go to Nightingale Plaza, SBE’s high-tech ode to the dance floor named after Hollywood’s after-party-rich Bird Streets. It opens Saturday on La Cienega, and here’s another opportunity for you to look at it.

You’ll enter into an elegant lounge with surreal wallpaper strewn with phantom limbs, flowers with eyes and the occasional extraterrestrial dinosaur. It will all make sense once you get an armful of Mezcal Penicillins and Blood Orange Negronis for your friends circling the dance floor on tiered mid-century sofas. Or maybe it doesn’t need to.

The beats will be building. Avocado-topped white pizzas and steak frites from Hyde’s Chris Crary will appear, because someone ordered them. Laughter will ensue. You’ll lead a soft hand onto the dance floor.

The beats will surge. The high-energy room will churn pleasantly around you. The LEDs will be shifting colors, and you may get the peculiar feeling that the mirrored panels on the walls just slid away before your very eyes to cover the whole ceiling.

Things are different in the Upside Down.
