While moving swiftly in the general direction of the Semi-Tropic, a mellow neighborhood bar where you’ll while away various hours over strong coffee, cold beer and good music, now open in Echo Park. Here’s the slideshow and the menu.
Here you have a fetching little bar where you could get some work done by day. Start with something interesting and caffeinated like the espresso tonic or bitter mocha with their churro waffles or avocado toast. Then retreat to a sofa under a brick wall. Have a drink if you’re playing the avocado toast drinking game.
It’ll feel like the lair of some ’60s audiophile friend who’s been working a little Velvet Underground into everybody’s Esquivel—mid-century furniture. Framed art prints. Massive wooden speakers pumping an Echo Park–approved soundtrack over the green-bottomed bar.
Also above the bar, cold temptation staring you right in the face in the form of Hungarian Veltliner, San Diego oatmeal stout and nitro IPA. So as your day draws to an end, you’ll text a friend or two to come meet you for some beer or wine.
