Cast of Characters:
YOU, generally rakish person with a desire to bust a move
THE VJ, synchronizes video mixes to music
BARTENDER, bartender
And now, UrbanDaddy presents Oddfellows—a spiritually inclined video dance club named after an old fraternal society that unfolds over two acts. It’s soft-open now. (Your visual reference exists here.)
Act I
YOU enter a white-brick barroom drenched in natural light. It feels like an abbey, but with booze. Vinyl spins; music erupts. YOU survey the walls, which are sparsely decorated with vintage Oddfellows memorabilia.
YOU
I need a cocktail.
BARTENDER
Yup.
Entr’acte
Act II
Later, YOU wander through the bar’s threshold to a dark concrete club. There’s an upstairs VIP lounge and a few desultory tables. The vibe can only be described as “David Lynch gets a vertiginous case of Saturday Night Fever.”
YOU (to yourself)
What’s that vintage telephone booth doing here? Why are there tables in random hallways outfitted with built-in Ouija boards?
All the while, THE VJ veejays—soul, ’80s pop, electronic. One large screen illuminates the dance floor. YOU decide to give in, and bust that move.
An alternate ending involved you playing Ouija to contact the bartender’s deceased grandmother.
