The Case for Taquitos and Hibiscus Negronis in Roscoe Village
Average Reviews
Description
This place is trying to make those gas station hot dog rollers cool.
And those continuously circulating juice machines.
And you know what… it might just be onto something.
This place is Kite String Cantina, which transformed the former Banger’s & Lace in Roscoe Village into a laid-back lounge full of edible and drinkable things. It’s open now and this is its slideshow. Here, cobalt blue walls and the embossed metal bar are your main focal points. Well, those and the beaming neon kite. Take a seat in its pink glow to catch a glimpse of the taquito rollers in all their taquito-rolling glory. There’s also a Ms. Pac-Man machine to fight for your attention. But back to those taquitos. While they might look like something straight out of 7-11, these are made with housemade tortillas and filled with green mole chicken, pork and pineapple, or seasonal vegetables. They go nicely with an order of chips with Guajillo ranch or tomatillo avocado dipping sauce because, well… that’s the only other thing on the menu. And did we mention the bubbler machines? We will now. Filled with Passion Fruit Punch, Hibiscus Negroni, Limonada Margarita and Coconut Horchata, they’re basically a less fancy-pants take on draft cocktails. It drives home the fact that this is a no-frills place where you can watch the games and drink a Chocolate Old Fashioned sans pretense.
Unless you put your pinky finger up, then all bets are off.
