A Gary Danko somm and a Meadowood somm walk into a wine bar.
No, sorry. That’s not how this goes.
A Gary Danko somm and a Meadowood somm open a wine bar. That’s it.
No punch line or anything. Just this magical new place called High Treason that’s now soft-open in the Inner Richmond and looks a lot like this.
See, those two sommeliers had pretty much worked… well, everywhere important. Ame. The French Laundry. Still Meadowood and still Gary Danko. You get it. But since they cherish you, they decided to open this laid-back neighborhood wine bar with street art on the walls, a vinyl soundtrack in the speakers and a handpicked wine list everywhere else.
Grab a seat at the bar under the wave-like installation of wooden wine crates covering the wall. Chat with the owners, who will point you toward your new favorite Italian red while selecting one of the records lining the wall to play on the turntable.
It also behooves you to know that 1) you can get some cheese and charcuterie now, but a full menu from a Quince chef is coming soon, and 2) most of the wines are available to-go for a park picnic or a nightcap at your place.
All of which seem like excessively reasonable scenarios.
