Right, no. You totally do. And considering the fact that Z Bar is now open on the terrace of the iconic Peninsula Hotel, this is shaping up to be a pretty serendipitous Monday. Ascend and take a look around.
After showing up with a few work people or a date, you’ll be greeted with painted murals, bold patterns, multiple lounges and enormous skylights. It’s a good greeting. Choose to stay indoors and enjoy your worldly libations, or venture outside to take in the beautiful views of Chicago’s most glorious skyscrapers.
The focus here is on creative cocktails utilizing inventive ingredients, rare garnishes and imaginative surprises. The Manhattan Royale, for example, features 18-year-old bourbon with black truffle bitters served over ice that’s laced with 24-karat gold. Yeah, that’s just how they do it here.
Global flavors infuse the small plates menu with options like Marrow Poppers, which are Yukon potatoes filled with bone marrow, bordelaise and Calabrian chili. Or the Daikon Frites served with a spiced tomato jam. Translation: no wrong turns.
It’s intimate but exciting. Casual but elevated. And it’s got a funkiness to it that sets it worlds apart from being “just another hotel bar.”
