We are going to tell you what to do, as it involves having the wherewithal to make an extremely important reservation to Bavel.
As in the new Middle Eastern restaurant from Bestia chefs Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis that opens tonight and looks like this.
Great news, right? Now two chefs with Middle Eastern roots who prepare ridiculously in-demand Italian cuisine are tackling food they were raised on. And you’re going to want to dress nicely and hit the Arts District with a gang of other lovely people to eat there, STAT.
When that happens, you’ll arrive in an enchanting former warehouse nearby Bestia, hung with a cheerful jumble of plants with shadows that flicker in lattice-like patterns on the white walls under a night sky. Or you’ll do the patio.
Request some wine while settling in for the main attraction: a shareable feast for the table based around richly spiced, cured meats, sumptuous dips and wood-fired meats and fish, followed by Gergis’s modern-wonder desserts.
It may go something like this: Duck ‘nduja hummus, sujuk flatbreads and foie gras halva at tip-off. Slow-roasted lamb neck shawarma and Wagyu beef cheek tagine at halftime. Then, rose clove chocolate donuts with coffee before the buzzer.
