You’ve heard all about Barneys returning to its downtown roots and yada, yada. And we love a good
throwback. But more than that, we love a good place to sit down, do some shopping and eat bacon-Dijon
grilled cheese with red onion marmalade.
And today, we only know one place like that.
It’s Freds at Barneys New York, a third-floor respite from all that strenuous work you do in the other
regions of that new Barneys, now open.
Let’s explain our own version of respite: it includes three-cheese pizzas with balsamic aged to scotch levels, fluffy grilled cheese with
bacon and red onion jam, and spaghetti with minced clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, octopus and squid
braised in tomatoes, herbs and wine. In other words, our definition of respite is better than most.
To find this wonder, you’ll resist the urge to pick up one of the leather motorcycle jackets so lovingly
arranged in the street-level windows, head straight for the third-floor menswear section and look for
the thing
that looks like this.
We understand if you pick up something leather on your way out.
