France. Sweden.

Those are both places.

And maybe you’ve been to them. Ate some food. Drank some drinks. Admired the architecture.

If not, well… here you go.

To Volta, a new French brasserie from the team that brought you FiDi staples Perbacco and Barbacco. Except, get this: it’s also Swedish. It’s open now in SoMa, and here’s what it looks like.

Ponder this cultural mashup as you step inside the modern dining room with mood-setting touches of gray and blue courtesy of the almost-Mediterranean tile floor.

Note the plush banquettes dominating that dining room. Those will work out just fine for a client lunch or something. And the mezzanine, flanked by Calder-like chandeliers, is nicely situated for a celebratory dinner. But for now, let’s focus on the more immediate future. Namely, this weekend’s date.

You’ll head to the backlit bar in the front corner and sip on drinks involving housemade aquavit, or maybe share a bottle of French wine as you peruse the menu.

“This Swedish-French thing is starting to make sense,” you’ll think. “And things are becoming even more clear now that I’m sharing this order of herring five ways and this côte de boeuf with bone marrow.”

It’s okay if you think different things.
